Frankey, aka Streetart Frankey, aka Frank de Ruwe, is known for his urban interventions that can be seen every week in Het Parool. His work has been shown at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and various exhibitions in the United States (including Wall Art Gallery, NY), Germany and the Netherlands.

His modus operandi is clear: if Frankey sees a missing brick in a wall somewhere on the street, there is a good chance that he will visit the place again in the middle of the night to leave his mark. Search well and you will find his work. But sometimes it is not that difficult either, he was often in the news because of the Lego version of folk singer André Hazes that he placed on Dam Square in Amsterdam.

The greatest hits that adorn the city are Jean Claude van Damme (in his signature 'split' between a V-shaped concrete pole behind the OBA), his stained glass guerrilla tribute to Johan Cruijff in the tram stop of line 14, the statue of Eberhard van der Laan on pop temple Paradiso, his tram stop tributes with Amsterdam song lyrics, the so-called 'Saunaman' (steaming above the North-South line that was still under construction at the time) and Gaston Lagaffe on the U of the Trump building in New York. With accurate observations and matching smart interventions, Frankey manages to give passers-by an instant smile from ear to ear time after time. "Pretty cool, right?", He says himself.

Frankey has a free expo on the 22nd-24th of January at the Westergas, but unfortunately all tickets are gone by now. More info: https://frankey.com/events/gumballin-streetart-frankey-free-expo-2021/
